Wistful Sound Gazers’ Ron Christopher first introduced his music with the self-released ”Bliss.” A classically trained wind instrumentalist throughout his public schooling growing up in Philly – Christopher’s songs showcased the singer/producer’s stash of influences, from airy ambiance similar to Enya , folksy contributions on pedal and 12 string guitars from Brett Kull of Echolyn, to dramatic string swells reminiscent of a movie score.
Released in 1999, the EP earned solid reviews from indie music blogs, including one Gods of Music.com reviewer’s comparison to George Michael. And though things seemed promising, especially for the reggae fueled, feel good anthem “Push,” thanks to that track’s inclusion on MP3.com’s TruSonic streaming service, mainstream eluded him. His decision not to tour in support of “Bliss” while momentum was strong didn’t help, Christopher admits. Instead, he continued to record, produce and perform for other artists.
Though nine years passed, or as Ron says “life just happened,” before another WSG entry - a cover of Tommy James and The Shondells’ “Crimson & Clover” was released as a single in 2008 through Christopher’s own label, City Avenue Records, and distributed by Orchard Enterprises, now owned by Sony Entertainment.
A buoyant shift from the mellower mood pop of “Bliss,” “Crimson & Clover” is one of WSG’s most streamed songs, along with 2011’s country/funk single “Gonna Get To You.”
2017 saw “Wishful Is What Wistful Does” become Wistful Sound Gazers’ first release in the CCM category, and features the stirring acoustic ballad “You Will Need.”
