Colie is a project from North Queensland storyteller, Nicole Cross. Colie’s love of storytelling began at a young age, inspired by her Grandfather and his love of Australian poetry, in particular Banjo Patterson.
Colie’s newest single ‘Kids These Days’ digs into the old and dusty family photo albums. It's a retrospective look at growing up in regional Queensland. The family holidays, the wholesome example of true love set by loving grandparents. Colie’s grandparent’s family home was always filled with family, and it was full to the brim with love. In her usual style, Colie creates crisp clear poetry in music-motion filling the hearts of her listeners with warm assurance.
From Julia Jacklin and Phoebe Bridgers to Johnny Cash, Colie’s sound has been influenced by an interesting mix of genres. Colie is proud of her folk roots, and her sound has recently been described by Elsa Silberstein from Triple J as “Brutal Australian songwriting - Colie leaves you feeling warm albeit a bit devo”.
Despite unprecedented times, 2020 so far has seen Colie release two singles and her sophomore EP ‘Second Hand’. Shortly following the release of her second EP, Colie was announced as Queensland’s Regional Triple J Unearthed Level Up Grant winner. Funds from the Level Up Grant have allowed Colie to produce her next single ‘Kids These Days’.
