The 4 founding members of Electric Monk (Topias Jerkku [vocals], Lauri Vähänissi [guitar], Ilkka Elo [bass] and Aleksi Torvela [drums]) had been playing in various bands since late 90s. They finally came together and formed Electric Monk in summer 2004 in Helsinki, Finland.
In years 2004-2006 Electric Monk played dozens of gigs at Finland's sleaziest venues and released 3 EPs.
In 2007, Electric Monk was joined by an old friend, Ville Nissinen (trombone & mandolin), and later that year the debut album "Hair of the Dog" was released. In 2009 Electric Monk played an acoustic concert tour and recorded a five-song acoustic EP.
The second full-length album "Hanging Loose" was recorded in 2010-2011 with hard rock legend Hannu Leidén at Seawolf Studios in Suomenlinna, Helsinki. In 2012-2013 Electric Monk recorded and released a ten-song digital album.
The band faced a tragedy when the trombonist and mandolinist Ville Nissinen was found dead in Raahe in September 2014. Electric Monk decided to carry on with the original line-up.
Electric Monk released a new EP in 2017. After 5 years of semi-active gigging, the band finally decided to break up in summer 2019.
A new EP "So Long, and Thanks for All the Booze" will be released on 26 August 2019.
