When Chumped went on indefinite hiatus at the end of 2015, founding members Anika Pyle and Dan Frelly formed the two-piece Katie Ellen.
Named after Pyle's grandmother -- a prominent Denver, Colorado radio host who was sued by her station after using the name without their consent -- the duo wasted no time in touring and releasing their first demo EP, Wild Heart. Channeling the power pop of Teenage Fanclub and the crunchy punk of their previous band, the release caught the ear of Jeff Rosenstock, who championed the demo on his own donation-based online label Quote Unquote. Dates with Rosenstock, Cayetana, Thin Lips, and more followed and Katie Ellen headed into the studio to record their debut single. The resulting TV Dreams appeared in October 2016 on Southern California indie label Lauren Records. With the addition of Adult Dude's Eric Sheppard and Anthony Tinnirella, the band continued to tour for the rest of year and into 2017. Their debut album, Cowgirl Blues, which had been recorded the previous year, appeared that July on Lauren. ~ Rich Wilson, Rovi
