Ora The Molecule is a multinational Avant-garde pop music group, creating an unexpected sound between timeless nostalgia, smooth Pop and retro Electronica.
This is a new sound to the Pop music landscape with emotional Calypso tinged melodies, still always irresistible danceable. Inspired by Suzanne Vega, Kraftwerk, Fleetwood Mac and the Spanish band Mecano.
Growing up in Norway, Nora Schjelderup (lead vocal, guitar) started the band in L.A. after spending time connecting with her American biological father and working as a songwriter. There she met German synthesiser player/producer Jan Blumentrath and drummer Sju Smatanova. The band now live together in the Andalucian Mountains of Spain.
Nora's lyrics can be read as playful, other times piercing through the knowledge of self. The overall theme of the lyrics is to celebrate the dance we do when all surroundings seem chaotic and the mind no longer can structure and predict. Hence the name Ora The Molecule. A Molecule is part of something bigger and might not understand its own purpose. Ora is a personified molecule, an identity within something else. It is OK that it doesn’t understand itself because it is a molecule. This is the concept.
