Bess Hildick-Smith, known by her stage name as Bess Atwell, was raised in the English countryside, one of four children among a family of musicians and fine artists. The songwriter has toured throughout the UK and Europe, as a headliner and with bands such as City and Colour and Phosphorescent. Both singles from Atwell's latest offering (the Big Blue EP) landed spots on BBC Radio 6 Music's playlist, and she is now working on her sophomore record due for release in 2021.
