Shadow of Everest is a Canadian progressive groove metal band from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Formed in 2014, the band’s line-up currently consists of guitarist/vocalist JV, bassist Shaun Cowell, drummer Matt Burton and guitarist Andrew Welsman.
With a formidable live performance and an appetite for no-holds-barred rock and roll, Shadow of Everest can be been compared to such massive artists as Tool, Black Sabbath, Mastodon and Pink Floyd. Heavy riffs and syncopated rhythms are accompanied by dissonant tones and powerful, haunting vocals. The band writes as a unit; building on a single segment of music and playing it a variety of ways. The music is always evolving and it is not unusual to hear variation between recorded and live tracks.
Their debut album, Idle Hands, has received attention on an international scale. Success is not without its challenges. Mid-way through the recording process, JV required throat surgery which left Shadow of Everest treading water in the studio and unable to perform live. Being a band that thrives on challenge, this was just an opportunity to cultivate more music. They plan to bring more unique music, tight performances and their own signature brand of strangeness into the world.
