With roots in the fertile Louisville, Kentucky indie rock scene, singer/songwriter Evan Patterson did time with bands like the National Acrobat
, Breather Resist
, and Young Widows
before conceptualizing his Jaye Jayle alter ego in 2013.
Taking inspiration from the shared straightforward approach of both early garage rock and punk, Patterson first channeled his dark and somewhat psychedelic songwriting impulses into a series of 7" singles released on four different labels in 2014. Backed by Louisville scene luminaries including bassist Todd Cook and drummer Neal Argabright, among others, Patterson and his band issued a debut full-length in 2016 in the form of the looming, ominous House Cricks and Other Excuses to Get Out, released on the Sargent House
label. The group returned in early 2017, sharing a split EP with Emma Ruth Rundle
called The Time Between Us. ~ Fred Thomas, Rovi
