The name ‘Simon’s Ghost’ is derived from a particularly good track by the Factory Records band, Crispy Ambulance from the album, The Plateau Phase. The music is the brainchild of Chris Smillie who composes, plays, produces and sings all the original songs, with occasional help. The first album, A Sea of Stars, could be described as lo-fi electronica - New Order meets the Band of Holy Joy - and was recorded on a 2-track recorder in the bedroom of a Scottish Highland village in the 1990s and released in 2009.

A rather more sophisticated track, Resonance, partially written by the Egyptian Zeina-T was then released in 2015. Then, in 2017, Simon's Ghost released the Breathe - EP. This featured a harder guitar-based sound which reviews compared to Joy Division, Talking Heads, the Sisters of Mercy and oh so many more. This EP also marked the first cover version ever recorded by Simon's Ghost - a haunting version of Morrissey's 'I Know Very Well How I Got My Name'.
