From Ballinasloe in Co. Galway, Ireland, songwriter Emma O’Reilly is often compared to acts like Kate Bush, Aldous Harding, Maggie Rogers and Owen Pallett for her imaginative yet refined sound.
Dramatic and always evocative, Emma’s music is a fusion of Alternative rock, pop and folk, all informed by her classical training at the piano.
Emma's development as an artist was an unusual one, with her cutting her teeth between the classical and DIY music scenes in Dublin. This DIY approach inspired a stream of early recordings, releasing self produced EPs in 2007, 2012, and ultimately cumulated with her stepping into the studio to create PURGE (2014), a small collection of songs with orchestral leanings.
In 2015, disaster struck in the form of severe tendonitis, which ground everything to a halt, and postponed the recording of her 2nd studio EP. After some space and some hard work, 2016 saw her hit the ground running, recording the new EP (FRACTURES), and touring in Ireland, the UK, Canada, the US and Lithuania, rounding the year off with performances in Volt Studios in Dublin, and Dublin Ink.
FRACTURES , her latest EP, was recorded by mixing live and multi-track processes in Arad Studios in Dublin, Ireland with Les Keye (Squarehead, Kevin "Herm" Connolly, My Sweet Beloved). The EP explores a sound closer to her live shows, and digs into her alternative rock influences. The result is alternately introspective and ferocious, vulnerable and dramatic, intricate and engaging.
