After previously focusing on hip-hop with tracks such as ‘Push It’ (featuring Pusha T) and ‘We Run’ (featuring French Montana, Wale and Raekwon), iSHi was freshly inspired by his love of old school RnB – the music that has soundtracked the best moments of his life.
The result is ‘Have Mercy’, a slick and immediately infectious track that brings the best of ‘90s RnB right up to date. The British-Jamaican / Swedish artist Shenie Fogo makes a striking introduction to her talents with a topline that exudes both power and soul, while Maleek Berry is on-hand to give the track an Afrobeats vibe. And you may well recognise the hook – a bass-heavy modernisation of Diana King’s ‘Shy Guy’ which famously featured on the soundtrack to the film ‘Bad Boys’.
“‘Have Mercy’ came from a dark time in my life,” says iSHi. “When I removed myself from toxic environments, destructive people and relationships, I finally found a spark in myself and the music came back to life. The song means a lot to me, not only because of its pureness, but also for how it healed me through this moment in my life. I hope other people can feel the happiness that I experience when listening to the track.”
