“electro-orchestral drone-scapes of, by turns, gauzy intimacy and soaring grandeur” Mojo
“highly evocative work of the otherworldly transforms the recognizable into something mysterious, even on occasion, the supernatural” Monolith Cocktail
Born in London to mixed Indian/British heritage, trained in cello at The Centre for Young Musicians & Morley College then philosophy at Durham University, now based in Stroud, Gloucestershire.
Recent work is a rich combination of field recordings, adept loop based cello compositions & atmospheric improvisations that explore the rich sonic possibilities of the cello through a host of treatments & effects chains. From droning stillness & devastating harmonic simplicity to the abstract microtonal atmospheres, his work recalls post classical work from greats like A Silver Mt Zion at their most plaintive & Stars of The Lid at their most majestic.
Musical influences include Aphex Twin’s strange, otherworldly super minimal sound worlds in Selected Ambient Works Vol. 2, the era defining work of experimental trumpet player & pillar of contemporary music Jon Hassell. His mix of tape degraded processing & microtonal sound layers has a debt to both the masters of dub such as King Tubby & Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry alongside iconic 20th Century composer György Ligeti.
