Jun Märkl has conducted several of Europe's leading orchestras and worked with most of the major German opera companies.
During his six years with the Orchestre National de Lyon, he recorded the complete orchestral works of Claude Debussy. He also recorded the complete symphonies of Robert Schumann with the NHK Symphony. Between 2007-2012 he was chief conductor of the MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra.
As a student in Hannover, he studied violin and piano as well as conducting. He went on to study with Sergiu Celibidache in Munich, then the University of Michigan, and at Tanglewood with Leonard Bernstein and Seiji Ozawa. His first directorships in the 1990s were at the Saarbrücken Staatstheater and the Mannheim Nationaltheater.
