To a certain extent, Yung Lean´s new album "Starz" is perhaps best described an epitome of his artistic trajectory so far, taking bits-and-pieces from the various characteristics, sonic expressions and mannerisms expressed since his debut little over 6 years ago and destilling them into a unanimous statement; ad hoc-creativity reminiscent of "Unknown Death 2002", the naive yet obtrusive splendor of "Unknown Memory", the gritty, paranoid urgency of "Warlord" and the eccentric pop sensibility of "Stranger" - all stitched seamlessly together by whitearmor and Yung Sherman though a series of studio sessions in Stockholm, Lisbon and Los Angeles during summer and fall of 2019.
Distinct, confident and coherent; "Starz" is arguably Yung Lean´s most absolute release to date, a beautifully undemonstrative and candid collection of songs liberated from the chains of genres, an unrestricted creative space with ample room for a seemingly inexhaustible talent to exploit his entire repertoire - a one-of-a-kind creator, habitually refusing to be pigeon-holed, impossible to disregard, and home at last in an environment that is truly a product of himself.
