Chip Wickham started out with Manchester's Grand Central Records, with Rae & Christian, Fingathing, Jimpster, Nightmares On Wax, and Graham Massey.
It wasn't long before he was touring the world over, and working with artists like Badly Drawn Boy and Roy Ayers. He also played on the soundtrack to Guy Ritchie's Snatch Movie Soundtrack.
After writing, producing and remixing tracks for a wide range of artists and his own project Malena (Fried Samba, Freestyle, 2007), he worked with Matthew Halsall on Sending My Love and collaborated with Nat Birchall and Rob Turner (GoGo Penguin).
After moving to Madrid in 2007, he formed The Fire Eaters and released 2 solo 45s on Lovemonk. He then appeared on The New Mastersounds' Chocolate Chip single, as well as on different efforts by Lack Of Afro and Deep Street Soul.
All this culminated in a stint with the Craig Charles Fantasy Funk Band, where he played alongside UK scenesters like Snowboy, The Haggis Horns, and Mick Talbot (The Style Council).
However, jazz kept calling, and in 2015 he got together with 3 friends from the Spanish jazz scene – Gabri Casanova, David Salvador and Antonio Pax, to record La Sombra, a spiritual jazz album produced and mixed by Wickham himself. Featuring 6 original compositions and a cover of Camaron De La Isla's La Leyenda Del Tiempo, it was released in 2017, to much critical acclaim.
In 2018, he released followup Shamal Wind, further expanding on what he achieved in the year leading up to it.
