Matt Morrell writes and records songs from his home in the mountains near Baltimore, MD. A veteran of the mid-2000s indie rock scene in Brooklyn, NY and Harrisonburg, VA, Matt shared stages with bands such as Sufjan Stevens, John Vanderslice, Matt & Kim, and Arum Rae. The 2009 release of Matt’s first full-length LP, Evette, coincided with the birth of his first of four kids. Over the next decade, Matt maintained a dedication to growing as an artist, waking up before dawn to write and record. Trading the acoustic guitar for a laptop and headphones, Matt learned synthesizers and drum sequencers, creating lush textural landscapes for lyrical exploration. As a songwriter, Matt combines evocative lyrical images with rich sonic textures, bringing to mind Bright Eyes, Arcade Fire, Mountain Goats, and Leonard Cohen. His live performances have been compared to Rolling Thunder-era Bob Dylan with the experimental ethos of Bon Iver, Neutral Milk Hotel and Bleachers.
