Good Evening Manchester were an alternative rock band from the Åland Islands. Active from the mid-'80s through the early '90s, they debuted in 1986 as a quartet -- guitarists/vocalists Patrik Dahlblom and Anders Korpi, drummer Niklas Dahlblom, and bassist Hans-Erik Ramström -- with a self-titled EP released on the small Kustrock label.
After that, the band signed to major-label CBS in their home country, and their lyrics switched from Swedish to English. Learning to Sing, their debut album, was released in 1988. Within three years, the band returned on EMI's Parlophone division, where they released 1991's self-titled second album (featuring Ciàran O'Reilly in place of Korpi, and additional guitarist Peter Hägerstrand) and their finale, 1993's Diana. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
