Born in Los Angeles to two classical musician parents, Juliet grew up as a classically trained cellist, whilst listening to a wide array of folk artists. Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake and k.d. lang amongst others. When her family relocated to their native Australia in 2005, her natural shift towards words and writing stories was in full swing. In 2012, at the age of 15, she opened up for Nina Nesbitt London show of her UK tour. In high school, Oswell was shortlisted for the internationally acclaimed Vanda & Young songwriting competition with her song ‘Barrier’, causing her to hone her craft even further. As her tastes evolved, so did her style, and in her late teens citing artists such as Julia Jacklin, Adrianne Lenker, Lorde and Laura Marling as inspirations - Juliet Sunflower was born. She also collaborated with Ed Hawke to form Melbourne-based band San Antone in 2016, who helped produce, mix, record and play on her debut EP ‘Salt of the Earth’ set to be released in the Winter of 2019.
