Having formed in 2010, War Elephant has been crafting their unique mix of vintage, guitar-driven music ever since.
Their sound is diverse, wide-ranging, but with their compelling vocal hooks and complex guitar work being the defining features that sets them apart. They bring forth a diverse array of influences, citing ‘Down’, ‘Opeth, ‘Rush’, ‘Pearl Jam’ and ‘Captain Beefheart’ as just a few artists who have shaped their hard-edged sound to what it is today.
Not one to shy away from change, War Elephant’s sound has evolved and seen a dramatic shift over the years. While their first three EP's sported an unplugged sound that was equal parts folk and blues, their latest endeavor sees them head into an unchartered heavier terrain. Initially a duo acoustic act, founding members Shaun O’Reilly and George Heslop felt their songwriting too constrained by the limits of two, so together they set about developing a fuller more band originated sound.
Their fourth EP, entitled ‘Fevered Sleep’ available on June 24th is a certain departure from their humble beginnings. The acoustic guitars have been replaced with electrics, amplifiers and an array of effect pedals, and with drums and bass added into the mix - they now step up as a fully-fledged band. Though this time, they have full reign to tear-out their depth-charged blend of proggy, doom-laced tracks.
