Donnie Barren, whose "Can't You See The World Through My Eyes" was used in Season 2 of the Netflix show “GLOW,” played lead guitar for the LA rock band "City Lights" in the early 1980's at clubs like the Starwood, Whiskey, and Troubadour (with bands like Ratt opening up for them).
Donnie ventured out on his own and released the single "I Love My Cat's Meow" in March 1983. Within a month, the song entered KROQ's "Rodney on the Roq's" Top 10, and then spent the next two months at #1. At the time, KROQ (FM 106.7) was the #1 AOR station in LA and was regarded as the new music trend-setter across the US. For perspective, Nena's "99 Balloons" held the #1 position the following month, long before other stations added the German song to their playlists, ultimately making "99 Balloons" a hit.
While shopping a Cat’s Meow album package to record companies, he became intrigued with the business side of music and took a break to finish school (earning an MBA from Harvard). He then dove into the biz world (albeit not the music biz), working at P&G and Microsoft.
In 2005, realizing that his kids were old enough to understand a bit about music, he re-released "Cat's Meow" as well as some previously unreleased tunes from 1983, hoping that the CD would spur a musical interest his children.
Lately, in addition to wakesurfing, skiing and tennis, he’s been playing with various Seattle bands, producing and releasing music, and writing with songwriters from around the globe.
