Having poured so much creativity into Ruby, there’s no question that Kerekes is deeply connected to the album. “Since I recorded and produced the album myself, without having anyone talking in my ear, it honestly makes me feel more personally attached to it. It feels like mine,” he admits. Kerekes’ organic approach to Ruby has birthed an album that is connected to the DIY scene that he came up in without limiting itself to any sonic conventions. That dichotomy allows for an album that’s as creative as it is dynamic, and establishes Kerekes as one of the most exciting songwriters working today. Ruby follows 2016’s Luna & The Wilde Blue Everything as Kerekes’ fourth solo album.
