Saxophonist and composer Harrison Argatoff is recognized as an up-and-coming voice in contemporary Canadian music. A 2018 graduate of The University of Toronto’s jazz program, Harrison is based in Toronto ON. Raised a Doukhobour in semi-rural British Columbia, teachings of pacifism, communal music making, and a wide sweeping respect for life and nature deeply influence his personal and artistic endeavors. Combining the study of free-improvised, jazz, and classical music, Harrison strives to impart personality, diligence, and vulnerability with each note. Spanning diffuse instrumentation and genre, Harrison’s music was described as “Somewhere between Bach, BL!NDMAN and Mark Turner” (Jazz Halo, 2020). From acoustic guitar and saxophone duo Ian McGimpsey and Harrison Argatoff to contemporary jazz quartet Harrison Squared, he is an enthusiastic creator of modern, eclectic music. Harrison has performed with many of Canada’s jazz greats, including Mike Murley, Steve Wallace, Kelly Jefferson, and Neil Swainson, and is currently a student of Sasha Rapoport, Wallace Halladay, and John Hollenbeck.
