CJay was born July 9th, 1993, in Holy Cross hospital, in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He was born in Florida but comes from a Jamaican background.
Growing up in Broward County, he often struggled with his family and was forced to move to various cities within the county, including Lauderhill, North Lauderdale, and Coral Springs etc. From the age of 6, CJay developed a skill in Art and began sketching, with the hopes of becoming an Architect or Video Game Designer. As he grew older, his passion for video games and sketching art faded, then basketball and rap became the center of attention. At the age of 14, CJay met a friend who asked him to join his music group, that consisted of mainly rappers but needed more dancehall artists. CJay joined and started his music career making dancehall music. After moving again, CJay shifted his focus to rap music and became a solo artist. One of his earliest stage names was "Young CJay" and it was changed to "Real Prophecy." In 2012, at 19, he released No More Pain, which features his popular single "52 Bars" that started heating late 2015. He later released his first full length album, The Boom Bap Album in 2016, paying homage to the originators of the culture and informing Hip Hop listeners of it's origins. Most of his content released at the time was boom bap, or 90's New York styled Hip Hop.
After freestyling on Shade 45's Sway In the Morning and winning 1st place in showcases hosted by Hot 97 and Coast 2 Coast, he changed his name to CJay.
