Somewhere between lo-fi songwriting and indie, "The Beginning" is an album full of broken lives and loves.
If you dive into the meandering surfaces, the scratching guitars, the wistful piano and the blazing drums, you don't need any solutions. Almost in slow motion, mindcoma treads through this debris field full of faded memories, cold love and unrequited passion. The slowed down tempo leaves you the time to get deeply involved in the sad beauty of the songs. Despite the heaviness of the themes, there is no exuberant lamentation in mindcoma’s music. Rather, the band has found a discreetly enraptured objectivity with which they defy the human abysses with somnambulistic ease and always carry a spark of hope within them. Even if the message of "The Beginning" is not always an uplifting one, mindcoma knows how to dress it in impressive music.
