Foreign Diplomats first came together as a group of high school friends from the Laurentians in Quebec (CA), determined to upstage the most popular band in school.
Over time and with a few changes, the current “boyband” line up emerged: Lazer, the tall drummer, Tony, the wise bass and foot-keyboard player, Charles the sexy guitarist, Thomas, the bouncy keyboard and trombone guy and Élie, the sad singer. In 2010, it is upon the sight of an airport sign that the band finds its name. Years later, we can still feel their complicity and childhood friendship in their energetic and festive sound, as if they were still trying to make their classmates dance.
Having since moved to Montreal, their indie/pop groove quickly caught the attention of indie label Indica Records (Half Moon Run, The Franklin Electric), with whom they released their self-titled EP in 2013 and “Princess Flash”, their debut full-length record produced by Brian Deck (Modest Mouse, Sam Roberts Band, Iron & Wine), in 2015. The success of the album led to licence deals in Germany & France, as well as playing renowned international festivals: Reeperbahn (Ger), Paléo (Swi), Les Primeurs (Fra), Cervantino (Mex), Osheaga, Jazz de Montréal, FEQ (Can), etc, supporting several prominent bands like Violent Femmes, Phantogram, Teenage Fanclub, Vance Joy and Half Moon Run . All in all, tons of fun was had, a whole lot of new friends were made, new fans came across and a bunch of new songs were written.
