Infinite light energy living through the human experience. Sharing epiphanies, affirmations and stories on the journey to self discovery.
“London-based singer/songwriter HURU is one of the best black British artists to come out of the UK in the last two years. With her avant-garde style and aesthetic, she draws you in with her aura and her soothing voice.”-Nusoulhubradio
The British-born 22-year-old is proud of her Kenyan/Jamaican roots, “My dad is Kenyan and my mum’s parents are Jamaican. As a child and teenager I travelled a lot to Jamaica and Kenya. My life was filled with all sorts of music ranging from traditional African folksongs, Reggae and Neo Soul to Hip Hop and Folk music,” says HURU.
HURU draws inspiration from a variety of artists such as India Arie, Solange, Oshun, Lauryn Hill, Akua Naru, Laura Mvula and many Hip Hop artists.
She describes her music as “honest, reflective and cosmic”. It is also progressive, speaking about a journey to enlightenment, self-awareness, love and the experiences of life from a personal perspective spiced with atmospheric electronic sounds and passionate, soulful vocals.
“I hope listeners to my music will feel encouraged to free their minds and express themselves fearlessly,” she says.
