Produced by Justin Raisen (Sky Ferreira, Charli XCX), ‘Peer Pressure’ is an unfeasibly catchy pop banger, inspired by the coming-of-age movie ‘Heathers’. The 21-year-old exudes star quality as her delivery heightens the power of her lyrics, blending wit and insight in equal measure.
“The title came first and then I was thinking about what that phrase means to me,” explains Devine. “I feel like it's such a general term used to cover so much, so with each verse I wanted to dissect a different aspect. It's about trying to be yourself but also wanting to fit in.”
Raised in Whitley Bay, L Devine became immersed in music as a teenager, composing songs in her bedroom, uploading them and performing in every venue she could. She moved to London two years ago to pursue a career in songwriting, which led to collaborations with a plethora of pop's most exciting producers including John Hill (MIA, Rihanna), Rogét Chahayed (Miguel, Travis Scott), Burns (Britney, Ellie Goulding), Al Shux (Lana Del Rey) and Ian Kirkpatrick (Dua Lipa, Selena Gomez).
L Devine is a songwriter who can perfectly capture a moment, and an artist who can deliver that moment with lashings of attitude. At the heart of her music is a genuine love of pop and a desire to take it in interesting new directions.
