Right before my great grandmother passed, one of her last wishes was for me to sing for her at her funeral. She wanted to hear the song Hallelujah.
The day of the funeral I sat by my self, away from the rest of my family, preparing to sing beside my late great grandmother. I didn’t want to see the faces of my family, because I knew that I would have broken out in tears if I saw them crying.
The time had come for me to sing. I stood right next to her coffin and sang for her, for the very last time. That was one of the hardest moments of my life. I couldn’t put my finger on how I was feeling. I sang for someone who wasn’t there, but in a way she was -In spirit. I know she heard me that day and I know that she hears this song. Cold at the altar is a tribute to my great grandmother.
We all miss you Brita!
Til’ we meet again.
