Skout is Laura Valk and Connor Gladney, a Brooklyn-based duo that plays indie-folk with restless edge. The pair met on an East Village stoop over coffee in late 2014. The next night, they played their first show together as Skout.
Shortly after Skout’s promising first EP, Again Anew, was released, Gladney became a permanent member of the band (coffee was awarded honorary membership as well). Again Anew’s warm reception and Skout’s success on the regional circuit caught the attention of soul-pop powerhouse and international platinum musician Eric Hutchinson, who came on board in 2016 to produce the band’s second EP, Just Words, before bringing the duo out on his fall headlining tour that same year. The EP’s title track peaked at #8 on Spotify’s USA Viral 50 chart in early 2017. It was also featured on The Today Show, and “Old Friend” off the same EP was recently featured in an episode of MTV’s Catfish.
Skout’s music pairs deeply personal lyrics with urgent and emotionally charged instrumentals, and their songs have resonated with fans across the country. Whether playing your Mom’s living room or the House of Blues, it’s the duo’s onstage chemistry, nonstop smiling, and the band’s “awkwardly endearing” banter/puns that truly bond listeners to the duo. Skout will be releasing new music and touring throughout 2018.
