The globetrotter began his career in Toronto, where he made his breakthrough on the independent scene with the EP ‘Uppercut’. The EP’s single ‘zensong' was the spark for an acoustic tour through Germany and Austria in 2005, which was a great success and opened the door to a decade and a half of near-constant touring. As his fanbase in Europe continued to grow, and his connection to his public grew deeper, Finlay financed his albums— Latitude (2011), Fault Lines (2013), New Harbor (2015) and Little Calm (2018)— via crowdfunding.
Despite COVID 19 putting his plan to record an album in New York in 2020 on hold, Finlay found inspiration for music even in this situation. Topics such as isolation and navigating an unknown future condensed into songs that he presented to his audience in the live streams of his 'Homebound Concert Series'.
His most recent crowdfunding campaign was launched in July 2020, and on the back of rousing support the album 'Shots of Light' was born. On March 19th, 2021 the title track and the first of five singles, ‘Shots of Light’ will be released with an illustrated video.
