Montreal’s hard-hitting, auspiciously-creative quartet Rival is reinventing hard rock. Formed late in 2013 by front-man, Jeremy Helten drummer, Mike Chretien and guitarist, Matt Baker, Rival quickly fell in stride with a sound like “Foo Fighters if they were dosed with amphetamines and then shown a documentary on Howlin' Wolf on repeat for several hours.” or “Cream meets Led Zeppelin during a bar fight.” No song get stale with these guys.
Rival is truly "Rock In Virtually Atomic Levels".
The band released their first EP, “Rival I” in 2014 and followed it up two years later with a full thirteen track album “Tales From The Bluesy Tomb” (2017). Both albums were entirely self engineered and produced. Since the release of “Tales From The Bluesy Tomb” Rival has hit the books hard. Writing a plethora of new material and working in the bands newest member, bassist, Corrado Johnston. Corrado joined the team after the amicable departure from Rivals previous thundercat and in-house audio wizard Adam Nigro. Rival plans to record a new five song EP in 2018.
Rival has been honored to play some of montreal’s best mid-sized venues. In particular Club Soda at the 2016 LME Showcase Finals at which they placed 2nd. In Autumn 2017 “Tales From The Bluesy Tomb” was included in Fireworks Magazine out of the U.K. in which it received an illuminating review. “Rival rock, they groove, they experiment, they stomp, they get funky, they get melodic and atmospheric, these guys are seriously good.”
