Kyoto Protocol was formed in 2008 by a group of angsty but fun-loving adolescent males who embarked on a quest to explore sonic frontiers together.
The band and their brand of unapologetically rebellious music were presented an immense opportunity in 2011 when they were picked to be the opening act in MGMT's inaugural show in Kuala Lumpur, their first exposure to the big stage. Since then, they adapted quickly and in the process were booked for coveted slots at festivals not only in Malaysia, but beyond as well.
In June 2011, Kyoto Protocol released "An Album”, a 5-track EP, under Monsoon Records who spotted them making the rounds in the local gigging circuit. This offering would prove to be a success as their first single “Pussycat” garnered heavy rotation on the airwaves, even reaching number 1 on the various Malaysian English language radio charts. Subsequently, the band received a nomination for “Best New Artist” from Anugerah Industri Muzik (Malaysia's version of the Grammys) in the same year.
Since then the band has followed up with a full 9 track album “Catch These Men” which marked new expansionary territory for them, not only in terms of a fuller and more mature sound. The album was followed by the band's first multi-national tour, a highlight stop being their namesake in Japan. It solidified the band's reputation as tour de force, which was recognised as they were voted "Best Live Performer" at the Hitz.FM MET10 Awards in 2016. <br>
