Forming in 2015, the band put a heavy emphasis on writing from the get go. Their debut single, ‘Concrete’, penned about a homeless couple who vocalist Paul Tong met on the streets of Liverpool, was played for 10 consecutive weeks by BBC Introducing Merseyside’s Dave Monks.
This caught the attention of Radio 1’s Huw Stephens and Phil Taggart, as well as 6 music’s Steve Lamacq, pushing the band in front of a national audience before they had set foot on stage together. The follow up ‘Elizabeth’ landed on the Best of BBC Introducing playlist, the TOPMAN playlist, entered the UK iTunes singles chart, and went on to be featured on Hollyoaks and Sky Sports.
These songs formed the early basis of the band’s sound, a strong dark pop undertone, influenced by guitar bands, city life and cinema.
A UK tour followed, including 2 sold out shows at the Liverpool 02 Academy, festival appearances at Kendal Calling, Liverpool Sound City, Tramlines, LIMF and Dot to Dot, plus supports with The Japanese House and Clean Cut Kid for a BBC 6 Music showcase.
Maintaining their focus on writing, the band have written over 120 songs. Paul, Josh, Phil and Jack then began using the demos to build an organic online fanbase of over 21,000 by sending them out privately on Instagram.<br>
