Canadian r&b/pop artist Laura Roy is a captivating songwriter, vocalist and college music graduate.
Despite studying Jazz, Blues & Classical, Laura’s music is known for her unique, smooth and sultry r&b vocals combined with infectiously catchy pop hooks. An avid songwriter, Laura is a four-year attendee of the prestigious Gordie Sampson Songcamp, put on by the Grammy-winning writer and has also been actively involved with The Songwriter's Association of Canada, songwriting across the country. Born and raised in the small village of Canning, Nova Scotia on the East Coast of Canada, she began singing, writing poems and composing music around the age of 10. Not long after she enrolled in guitar lessons and began to perform at local talent shows and festivals around the province of Nova Scotia. Laura has stated that her musical influences growing up were quite eclectic. “My mother constantly had James Taylor playing on repeat in our house, I think that was a big inspiration for learning guitar and songwriting. On the other hand, I had an older sister who was always blasting 90s/early 2000s r&b and hiphop which is where I picked up a lot of my vocal influences.” Now based in London, UK, Laura has been unraveling a more vulnerable side to her songwriting and is focusing more on her soulful, r&b roots with the recent release of her highly anticipated 2018 EP titled ‘Forte’ produced by UK artist/producer GEO.
