Classically trained, Dmytro originally embraced many genres including rock, jazz, pop and theatre. His early musical life began in the vibrant Northampton scene alongside his musical contemporaries such as Adrian Utley, @StAnthony’sFire and Bauhaus before he moved to London with his band, Suppose I Laugh.
Inspired by the work of Rick Wakeman and David Bowie, Dmytro turned to more visual work and became interested in early silent movies. Moving to Edinburgh he composed for poets, dancers and film makers, with commissions from Amnesty International and the Ukrainian Consul. He performed many times at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Lately, Dmytro has become recognised for his concert alongside Fritz Lang’s Metropolis which has toured extensively in the UK and Europe. The piano suite was composed independently of the visuals and it premiered at London's Wilton's Music Hall. Morykit brought together his works composed over 30 years using modernist and minimalist influences whilst referencing J S Bach and Philip Glass to create an expansive and inclusive atmosphere, heightening the tension in the film.
He has also created a concert for FW Murnau’s Nosferatu.
His recordings are successful across the world with his own piano interpretations of classic film and rock music. Dmytro’s brother is the musician, Roman Morykit, who is based in the USA with his wife and musical partner, Cilette Swan, who form the band, Gypsy Soul
