The great potential of the band is best revealed by the mellow chills “Begierde/Scham” gives its listeners. With their latest track comes a pivotal break in style: While their early work was inspired by the shoegaze/dream pop revival, they now dive into more mysterious territories accompanied by the sounds of distorted guitars screaming vicious and dystopian chants. But the magic really comes from lead singer Sophie Löw: Her distinct vocals are as touching as they are haunting. Thus, they represent the ultimate ingredient to an overall perfect mixtures of dreamy and melancholic guitar pop.
“Begierde/Scham”, co-produced by Jakob Herber (Flut), quickly earned CULK recognition as ‘the hottest newcomer band in town’. The video to the song underlines its aloof yet vulnerable character – a testimony to their uniqueness among other contemporary Indie acts.
Another distinctive feature of CULK is their decision to perform both English and German songs. In August 2018, the band will head into the studio again to record their first full-length album, which is planned to be released on Siluh Records in early 2019.
