With 2020 becoming a Year we will never forget in history, Mensa Ansah has started redefining his space in the African music scene and in the diaspora community, expanding the role that artists from the continent can play and the seat at the tables they should take, starting with a remix of his 2018 song “Still Dey Inside.”
Launching his career as M3NSA in the early 2000s, he released an album in 2011, No.1 Mango Street, still considered a cult in Ghana.
The album immediately created an intimacy with his audience, who has been waiting for another solo album ever since.
As Fokn Bois he co-wrote and performed the first visual album in Pidgin English, when "visual albums" didn't exist, which made it easier to define the Coz Ov Moni (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) series a "musical", even if the concept behind the work clearly transcends the definition.
He seems to be able to absorb cultures and languages; genres don't define but limit him considering his highly collaborative recordings with Ghanaian artists like Reggie Rockstone, Wanlov The Kubolor, Sarkodie, M.anifest, and international acts like Damon Albarn, Gorillaz, Flea, Paul McCartney and Tony Allen
Mensa Ansah's emotional intelligence and understanding of the needs of a new generation of rising African minds will put his understated, intelligent, and sometimes funny internal monologues and explosive sound right at his audience's heart.
It's time to get excited about what he’s bringing out in 2020.
