First listeners described 'Softly Loudly' as "Soulful, delicate yet epic", "Multi-layered and unique", "A grown-up lullaby - a hug in a song" and the critics have called it "a beautiful collection", "nothing short of amazing", "the restraint of the playing only makes this more poignant".
During a decidedly tricky year for recording music, Emma combined melting vocal harmonies, shimmering piano, bass, percussion and soundscape, to create a genre-defying collection of songs.
She enjoyed the company and talents of Adam Nabarro-Steel (bass), Neil Hooton (drums) and Debbie Harris (vocals), in spite of endlessly shape-shifting social-distancing parameters.
Emma was born in Nottingham and lives in Yorkshire. Softly Loudly is out now.
