Lo-Fang is an alias of Matthew Hemerlein, a singer and songwriter who draws from folk, R&B, and downcast electronic music.
Also an instrumentalist who can play bass, guitar, cello, piano, and violin -- he picked up his first instrument at the age of five -- Hemerlein released an album, Hot Nickels, under his birth name in 2011. He later signed to 4AD and debuted Lo-Fang with the gentle and shuffling 12" single "#88" in October 2013. The album Blue Film, conceived in several locations -- including Maryland, Tennessee, Los Angeles, Cambodia, and England -- arrived in February 2014. Hemerlein performed all of the instrumentation. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
