Night Helix is a dark dance electronic collective fronted by Ben Ross Davis. The new record Plural was released in September 2017 and includes collaborations with Tenshi Fan, Zak Keene, and Celestial Trax.
Night Helix was created in 2015 after Ben left his previous band in New York and went to Berlin to collaborate with visual artist Zak Keene on the debut single “Transplant” off the EP, “Guttoral”. Et Musique Pour Tous described the track, “like Christian Slater in the film Pump Up The Volume in which he plays Leonard Cohen‘s “Everybody Knows”. Transplant can be considered something of an experimental tune with sultry spoken word delivered over thumping basslines that both keep going throughout the duration of the song. It bangs properly enough to fit right into anything else out there that sits between the disco & house genres. It’s a weird, yet completely captivating. Alt Citizen called “Guttoral,” the album’s title track, is Donna Summer meets industrial, driven by vacillating synth riffs and a repetitious, reverb-laced vocal refrain. The follow up EP titled “American Scream” was described by Hartbeats as “he perfect excitement, sometimes Hart-Electro and then again Delicate House, full of unpredictable beats that throw in your ear and then immediately to the knees and then to the ground.
