Synth pop under a blood moon «Moon in Blood» is the name of the new EP by AEIOU, the Swiss band with all-ringing vowels.
AEIOU continues where it left off: on the dance floor, with a four-to-the-floor drum beat. The EP’s opening track ‘Flower In Me’ is a warm, textured electronic track. However, the new EP also provides space for reflection. The theme song, ‘Moon in Blood’, is the perfect track to listen to on your way home after a night out. It’s expansive and introspective, like a blood moon. All of a sudden, the EP’s final track, ‘Jig is Up’ pulls up to the bumper, pulls you into a leather-seated limo and carries you off to the next funk bar.
AEIOU is a Swiss-Liechtenstein pop band. Their sounds are multi-layered and textured with a retro scent. The voice is far from bombastic pathos. Their beats pulsate between analogue and digital.
In Switzerland, AEIOU celebrated their initial success in 2013, winning over critics with commendable airplay on their hit ‘Drifting Away’. Five years later, the Bern-based all-rounder Oli Kuster (Züri-West, Die Astronauten) gets the AEIOU band back together with a new singer, Karin Ospelt from Liechtenstein. In spring 2018 the group released the “You Won’t” EP.
The new AEIOU EP sits comfortably within the Electro-Pop genre. But beneath an electronic skin there is a beating analogue heart. This skilled analogue craft sets the band apart from the plastic, artificial sound that daily floods radio rotation.
