Formed in 2014 by former drummers Will Taylor and Charlie Martin, the Austin-based duo decided to start writing material after playing guitar for only a short while.
Using their drumming knowledge as the basis for guitar work, the duo's laid-back and simplistic approach first appeared on the seven-track EP. The following year, the pair teamed up with fellow Austin band Loafer to release the split single "Stay Warm." The band headed out on tour across the U.S. before recording their debut album. Taster appeared in April 2016 and drew comparisons to the likes of Yo La Tengo, Duster, and Pavement. Catching the ear of Philly-based indie Double Double Whammy, the label remastered and reissued the album a year later. 2017 also saw the duo back out on tour, with support slots for the likes of Pinegrove and Downtown Boys. Hovvdy's sophomore album, Cranberry, was issued in February 2018. ~ Rich Wilson, Rovi
