Manchester’s Mamma Freedom return with the release the their 3rd studio album ‘Anthems for an Empire on Grand Northern Recordings.
The new is the classic Mamma Freedom sound of Bond score meets Soul and filled with moments of love and hate, both haunting and cinematic while touching on the darkness and the light of emotions in its various incarnations.
With nods this time around to Stevie Wonder, Funkadelic, Prince and A Tribe Called Quest and comparisons on certain tracks to bands like RadioHead and Rival Sons, the albums style-mix and emotion scales the highest highs, the lowest lows, lifts you, drops you, gains your trust and then abandons you all while being set to a stunning musical soundtrack and lyrics from singer JV Johnston addressing everything from heroes to heists and narrating moments of social commentary inspired by the world and its politics, people, problems and prophecies of the year that was 2020. Its Soul, Funk, Rock, Film Score and its theirs.
Once again on production and mixing duties was the bands Alexander Johnston and recorded, mixed and mastered at the their Grand Northern Recording Studio in Manchester and written by the brothers along with writing contributions from bandmates Calcott and Hudson. They spent all of 2018-20 in the studio and in that time wrote and recorded music with Damon Albarn, Robbie Williams, Rudimental, John Newman, Wiley and CASisDEAD

before they set to work on Anthems by an Empire.
