Dover Island are Melbourne’s okayest band. Their self-branded ‘heartbreak rock’ combines loud distorted guitars, huge drums and anthemic, emotional lyrics to create a sound you never knew you needed.
Forming in a dusty garage in 2017, the band began with Holly O’Kelly [lead vocals and guitar] and Nathan Gunn [drums] soon joined by Jackson Spessot [bass], with Holly Ditchfield [vocals and guitar] completing the lineup just this year.
The band have worked hard to establish themselves, building an impressive gig portfolio. Supporting sold-out shows for the likes of Slowly Slowly, Approachable Members and Surf Trash (NSW)
The band’s debut single ‘Casey’ dropped on Triple J Unearthed in Feb 2019, and within the first week ranked 9th on the indie charts. Receiving a warm reception from the online community and described as “Punk tinged goodness” by Triple J’s Declan Byrne. In March, the band launched their first EP ‘Participation Award’ with a raucous party for 100 of their closest friends. Cutting their teeth in the studio with Ben Stewart (Slowly Slowly), the band were stoked to make their debut. Dover Island pride themselves on their DIY attitude, and that didn’t waver going into recording, getting their hands dirty every step of the way.
After playing shows all around Melbourne testing the waters with their new material, Dover Island are currently back in the studio the band are gearing up to make their next release even bigger.
