Originally started in 2015 by multi-instrumentalist Dakota Yazzie and Jazz saxophonist Jai Ram Rideout, Arizona's Earth Surface People sought to meld influences from Hip Hop, Neo Soul, Psychedelic, Art Rock, and Americana with an Arizonan perception.
Earth Surface People is an Indigenous (Diné/Navajo) led music collective whose work is based in decolonizing popular music through Indigenous storytelling and history.
Their first EP, "Juniper," utilizes narratives from Diné(Navajo) history and modern Diné narratives, placing the listener within the experience of Arizona attitude. These attitudes are further fleshed out by percussionist Daniel Brunner and Djembe player Allen Gonzalez through percussive conversations throughout the EP. In composition, the Keyboards played by multi-instrumentalist Zach Dominguez, are layered and eclectic, laying undertones for the Saxophone improvisation.
Earth Surface People is:
Daniel Brunner – Drums
Allen Gonzalez – Djembe, Hand Percussion
Zach Dominguez – Keyboard
Dakota Lee Yazzie – Guitar, Bass, Vocals
Jai Ram Rideout – Saxophone
