Freedom was something he was desperate to rediscover and after some time away, outer serenity and inner turmoil united on a self-produced EP in 2018, entitled ‘Nowhere’. Inspired by a trip to the Isle of Harris, George mingled desolation and hope, finding a hazy beauty in his inner bleakness. ‘I’m happiest when I’m on the move, it’s the change in atmosphere, disappearing into the air and open spaces, escaping from everything. I have a particular love for the ocean, I never feel more present or at one than when I’m in water’.
A line was drawn and George began recording his debut album at Real World Studios with producer Ali Staton. Developing a fuller sound and continuing to use his writing as therapeutic exorcism, the 12-track record evokes an other-worldly atmosphere as he explores themes of dissociation and alcoholism. “I’m extremely passionate about mental health and though this record documents the darkest time in my life, I hope that these songs also carry a sense of strength and empowerment.”
