merci, mercy

  1. 1.
    Fucked Myself Up
As a teenager, she lived in Beijing and Thailand, before moving back to Sydney. There she lived between regional Jindabyne and the coastal beachside of Dolls Point.
In 2018 she put a little song called ‘Be’ on triple j Unearthed, signed a worldwide record deal, got herself a management team and is now ready to release her first body of music at the age of 19.
'Fucked Myself Up’ released in March 2020, is the first taste from an exciting young Australian singer/songwriter. A bold introduction to merci, mercy’s low key but utterly compelling nature. Her honest, intimate storytelling exudes everyday life drama, exuberance and regret and is layered over music with attitude. The track was produced by writer/producer duo Edwin White (Vance Joy, Fergus James) and Joel Quartermain (G Flip, Oh Pep, Meg Mac)
On the song, mercy says "Fucked Myself Up is about dependence on alcohol, it gave me the confidence to be able to talk to people. I was getting fucked up on purpose in order to allow myself to be around people I didn’t know. My goal is to make music that talks openly about mental health, so it’s as normal as talking about what you're eating for dinner. Fucked Myself Up is me saying yes, I have a problem but I’m doing my best, so leave me alone.”
