NYC-based indie pop outfit Birch is the project of Michelle Birsky with bandmate Mat Towles.
Birch is thrilled to share their new single, “femme.two.” Premiering on August 16, 2018 on The Line of Best Fit, the song was inspired by the Women’s March, with haunting lyrics ruminating on both how far we’ve come & how far we have left to go. “The song reflects the essence of the feminist resistance,” Michelle shares, “it’s about standing up to adversity, step by step, protest by protest and recognizing our power as women and allies.” The Line of Best Fit praise the song’s “syrupy, glitch-pop beats and chopped and spliced vocal samples,” as well as its subject matter, one that “has a weight that’s personal as well as political.”
Birch has been releasing music and making waves in the Brooklyn scene for a few years now. Last summer, they released Not Human, prompting The 405 to proclaim that “you need this 4-track EP in your life” and Ladygunn to praise the way “Birch explores societal issues and the concerns of our generation in a rounded atmospheric cloud of swirly tempos that provide a space for feeling, reflecting and dancing.”
“femme.two” is just the beginning of Birch’s latest chapter, one that will continue to merge her affinity for creating moody indie pop, accented with electronic flourishes, with her incisive lyrics that tackle some of the most pressing socio-political issues of our time.
