Daniel Ruiz is the name of a 23 year old musician from Barcelona, Spain, who crafts nocturnal melodies with an eclectic style.
Quoting as his influences names like Tom Waits, Morphine or The Doors, but also contemporary ones like Father John Misty and Nick Cave, he adopts their common denominator of carefully written lyrics and a do-it-yourself way of thinking.
His debut –under the name of Weinf– was Requiem for Myself, which consists of 10 songs –recorded in his own bedroom with a borrowed computer– that were meant to be a farewell after being struck with the news that he had cancer.
Requiem for Myself was followed by Purple Bird and Other Strange Songs. Recorded in similar circumstances as its predecessor –he had a relapse in his illness–, the record talks about completely different issues: in it, there are short stories, reflections about God or the mother figure, and instrumental cuts.
Now, he’s released A Cup of Coffee with Two Sugar Cubes, Cream, and a Tiny Drop of Whiskey, Meet the Crimson Woman at the Dawn Cafe and I Can't Believe My Luck (I Really Hope I Don't Fuck This Up), the first tracks under his birth name. Expect more music soon.
