Everything about The Amber Bugs is a contradiction, and these contradictions aren’t carefully balanced against each other, they’re right in your face.
The world can be simultaneously ugly and beautiful and so can a band. There’s a lot of anger on the surface but scratch a little deeper and the songs reveal a hopeful undercurrent. Musically it’s hard to tell whether it’s a carefully arranged mess or a messy attempt at a careful arrangement. You can tell that they’re pulling on influences from all over but it gets so mashed up and rearranged that what pops out is refreshingly new and unique.
In January 2018 the band released “David Dimbleby”. They’re experimenting with two tone ska vibes alongside their established indie punk rock stylings. The follow up single “Gingers OR We Ain’t Got No Souls” came out on March 3rd and drops a whole bunch of previously unexplored genres. Some would worry that refusing to stick to a style would alienate fans. But that’s the last thing on The Amber Bugs minds.
<br>As Dave Franklin (Dancing about architecture) Puts it
"The Amber Bugs just throw all their favourite sounds into the mixing pot and then pour out a brilliant sound clash, one that uses ska licks and reggae bass lines to stomp all over the existing indie template. One that wanders between punk energy and slinky grooves to create its dynamic, one that takes familiar sounds and re-presents them via a Rubik’s Cube type musical re-jig."
